The flood inflow into the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir has gradually decreased. Over the past few days, heavy rains in upstream areas increased the flood flow to the Krishna River, bringing large volumes of water into the reservoir. With rains subsiding in the upper regions, a reduction in the inflow of water reaching Sagar is currently visible.
Officials are continuously monitoring the reservoir's water level, inflows, and outflows. Decisions regarding gate operations and water releases are made based on the volume of water entering the project. Precautionary measures are being taken to prevent any inconvenience to people in downstream areas.
Officials remain vigilant. Although the flood intensity is decreasing, authorities are maintaining caution. Since heavy rains in upstream areas could suddenly increase water inflows to Sagar, the situation is being reviewed from time to time. Officials are also observing water releases from upstream projects and the Krishna River flow to estimate inflows into the reservoir.
Farmers feel assured. With increased water storage, farmers believe a certain level of assurance has been created for irrigation needs.
Relief for irrigation. Water availability in the reservoir is crucial for farmers in areas like Nalgonda, Suryapet, Palnadu, and Guntur, who depend on Nagarjuna Sagar water. The current floods have improved water storage in Sagar, creating a situation of relief for irrigation needs. However, the priority order determined by officials for water usage must be followed. Measures need to be taken to balance the usage of available water in the reservoir for agriculture, drinking water, and other requirements.
People must be careful. Although the flood flow is receding, officials advise residents in river basin areas to remain alert. They warn against unnecessarily entering rivers, streams, and downstream areas of projects. Particularly, parents should ensure that children and youth do not go near river streams.
The situation at Nagarjuna Sagar currently remains under official monitoring. While the decrease in flood intensity has brought some relief to the public, changes in water flows are possible depending on weather conditions in the coming days. With the flood subsiding, relief is visible in the Nagarjuna Sagar basin areas, but authorities urge the public to strictly follow safety measures.
