The central government has initiated high-level consultations to secure financial and technical assistance from the World Bank for its ambitious urban development programs aimed at climate resilience.
With Indian cities increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events such as urban flooding, erratic rainfall, and severe heatwaves, the government is prioritizing robust infrastructure. Key focus areas include modernized drainage networks, water conservation bodies, and enhanced urban forestry.
Urban planners note that rapidly expanding metropolitan clusters, including Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities in southern states like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, stand to benefit significantly from these climate-adaptive frameworks, especially in mitigating urban flooding risks.
The blueprint for these resilient city initiatives will be presented during upcoming bilateral discussions with World Bank delegations. Officials are optimistic that securing international funding will accelerate the transition toward sustainable and future-ready urban centers across the country.
