In a major milestone towards strengthening railway safety, Indian Railways has launched the 'Kavach Version 4.0' system for the first time in the South Central Railway (SCR).
The existing Kavach Version 3.2 has been upgraded to the advanced Version 4.0 across 108 route kilometers in the Malkajgiri–Kamareddy section under the Hyderabad Division. The Ministry of Railways stated that Kavach Version 4.0 has been developed to suit the diverse operational and technical requirements of the Indian Railways network and is now being implemented following extensive testing. It functions as an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system to further enhance safety in train operations.
Advanced safety features in Kavach 4.0 include improved technology for more accurate location identification of trains. The system has been modernized to clearly provide signal information in large railway yards. Key technical facilities such as station-to-station Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) interface and direct integration with electronic interlocking systems have also been introduced.
Officials stated that these modern features enable more efficient monitoring of train movements and provide signal-related information faster and more accurately, thereby further improving railway travel safety and system reliability. The implementation of Kavach 4.0 stands as a crucial step forward as Indian Railways extensively utilizes modern technology, giving utmost priority to accident prevention and passenger safety.
