Movie Review: Star-studded and directed by Venky Atluri, "Viswanathan & Sons" hit the screens on August 14. Revolving around family bonds, love, emotions, and the choices we make in life, the film has been receiving a very good response from audiences since its opening days. Although the film was entirely produced in Tamil, it has plenty of elements that appeal to Telugu audiences as well.

Director Venky Atluri previously showcased his unique storytelling style with films like "Vaathi" and "Lucky Baskhar." This time too, he has crafted a story focusing primarily on family, human relationships, and emotions. However, rather than just being a love story or a family drama, it appears as an attempt to show life from a different perspective.

Suriya’s portrayal of Sanjay Viswanathan stands out as a major attraction in the story. Suriya is seen as an international pistol shooter striving to achieve his goal. The director has interestingly captured the emotional conflicts that arise when love enters the life of a person who refuses to give up his ambitions despite advancing age. The film brings forth the question of how a person reacts when love is hindered by age, circumstances, and societal opinions.

Suriya’s acting is the primary strength of this film. Breaking away from the intense roles he did previously, the director has brought out his naturalness, sense of humor, and subtle emotions in this movie. Suriya has brilliantly displayed the maturity and internal conflict within the character. In some scenes, his expression of emotions just through his eyes captivates the audience.

Mamitha Baiju also did justice to her role. She naturally conveyed the enthusiasm, love, and emotions of her character. Her on-screen chemistry with Suriya added more beauty to the story. The scenes between the two create a pleasant atmosphere in the movie. Especially during moments where love and family emotions intertwine, their performances are compelling.

Roles played by Radhika Sarathkumar and others further reinforce the family atmosphere in the story. Elements like bonds among family members, differences of opinion, love, and responsibility are showcased as part of the narrative. Therefore, this film stands out not merely as a love story between two individuals, but as a movie reflecting the multifaceted emotions within a family.

Music is another attraction in the movie. G.V. Prakash Kumar’s songs and background score flow in sync with the story. The background score was utilized to enhance softness during romantic scenes and intensity during emotional sequences. Cinematography also brought a special beauty to the film; Nimish Ravi’s camera work gave visual form to the emotions in the story. Editing was handled by Naveen Nooli.

Audience response indicates that the first half of the film drives the narrative forward smoothly. The introduction of characters, the love story, and the family background are crafted to draw the audience into the story. The second half gives higher priority to emotions; particularly, scenes concerning family relationships are designed to touch the hearts of the audience. There has been a positive response from viewers regarding both the first half and the climax scenes.

The core message the film intends to convey is the notion that relationships we encounter in life should be viewed with the heart rather than just by the standards set by society. The movie attempts to tell us that family is not just about blood relations; love, responsibility, and trust one has for another also build a family.

However, the narrative may feel slow in some places. Particularly, because more time is devoted to emotional scenes, those desiring a fast-paced narrative might find it a bit sluggish. Also, audience discussions point out that the dialogues translated from Tamil to Telugu have lost some naturalness in a few places.

Overall, "Viswanathan & Sons" is a film that prioritizes family, love, and human relationships over violence, heavy fight sequences, and exaggeration. Suriya’s acting, Mamitha Baiju's role, family emotions, and Venky Atluri's direction are the main strengths of the film. It can be said that this stands out as a clean, entertaining movie fit to be watched together with one's family. Recent reports state that the film grossed over Rs 110 crores worldwide in its opening weekend.

Verdict: For audiences who love love stories, family bonds, and emotions, "Viswanathan & Sons" is a good choice.

Rating: ★★★½ / 5
