The struggle is to protect public sector banking, and the central government's negligence in resolving bank employees' issues will not be tolerated, stated Anil Kumar Vellanki, National Chairman of the All India Bank Officers Association.

Hyderabad, Trinet News, September 9: Anil Kumar Vellanki announced that a nationwide bank strike will be held on September 11, demanding the resolution of long-pending issues faced by bank employees. He warned that if the central government fails to accept their demands and resolve the issues satisfactorily, another three-day nationwide strike will be conducted on September 28, 29, and 30.

Addressing a press conference organized at the Basheerbagh Press Club in Hyderabad alongside Association National Joint Secretary P. Murali, AP and Telangana President I. Haranath, and General Secretary S. Subramanyam, Anil Kumar stated that the performance, business, and profits of banks are not achieved solely through the efforts of any single officer or executive. Instead, he noted that the banking business is running profitably today due to the collective effort of sub-staff, clerical staff, officers, senior officers, and executives.

He expressed strong anger, stating that the central government and the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) are showing discrimination without resolving the issues of the employees who are driving public sector banks into profits, and are paving the way for the loot of public money by privatizing public sector banks under the guise of disinvestment.

He termed it unfair that despite an understanding reached between labor unions during Indian Banks' Association talks, a five-day banking week and performance-linked incentives (PLI) have not been implemented. He termed the proposal to disinvest from the profitable IDBI Bank—substantially reducing government ownership and handing it over to private and foreign investors—as malicious against national interests.

Anil Kumar Vellanki warned that if the core demands of bank employees and officers—such as implementing uniform performance-linked incentives for all, a five-day banking week, and immediately halting IDBI Bank disinvestment—are not met, protests will be intensified across the country.
