Completing eight years of dedicated service, the Lions Club of Hyderabad Shatabdi is stepping into its ninth year, standing as a true symbol of humanitarian work. Over the past eight years, the club has undertaken remarkable service initiatives in education, healthcare, environmental protection, supporting the poor, and encouraging students, always considering service as its utmost priority.
Adoption of Nine Government Schools
A signature initiative of the Lions Club of Hyderabad Shatabdi is the adoption of government schools. The club has adopted a total of nine schools, including the Government High School and Government Primary School in Kothapet, government schools in Nagole, Kompally, Ramanthapur, and two government schools in Vikarabad, providing them with essential infrastructure. In addition to supplying students with benches, belts, shoes, ID cards, and notebooks, the club has equipped these schools with electronic boards, computers, and science laboratory equipment. It has also constructed girls' restrooms, set up school kitchens, and distributed library books.
Focus on Holistic Student Development
Aiming to help students excel not only in academics but also in sports, technology, and personality development, the club distributes sports equipment, provides robotics training, and conducts career guidance programs. Awareness classes and personality development sessions are regularly organized. By identifying economically disadvantaged students, the club provides them with financial support for tuition and encourages them to continue their education, paving the way for a brighter future. Health check-up camps are also organized to create health awareness among students.
Extending Healthcare Services
The Lions Club has expanded its healthcare services to residents in areas such as Kothapet, New Marutinagar, and East Kothapet. By organizing health camps and awareness programs, the club provides necessary medical guidance. Members of the club have been at the forefront of delivering healthcare services to the poor and needy.
Environmental Protection
The club places special emphasis on environmental protection. It continuously undertakes tree-plantation drives and distributes saplings to promote greenery, actively involving school students in these ecological initiatives.
Collective Effort of Members
The collaborative support of past presidents, current members, and donors has been crucial to the club's success. Lions Dr. C.M.A. Durga Prasad, P. Nageswara Rao, Smt. P. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. K.C.H.A.V.S. Murthy, B. Bhagyalakshmi, Kandala Srinivas, B.K.M. Raju, Anil Kumar, and others have strengthened the service programs through their active contributions. For the 2026–27 term, Kandala Satyanarayana serves as President, P. Nageswara Rao as Secretary, B.K.M. Raju as Treasurer, Dr. C.M.A. Durga Prasad as LCIF Chairman, and P. Vijayalakshmi as Zone Chairman. Under their leadership, more innovative service initiatives are set to be launched.
Stepping Forward in Annaprasada Seva
Lion Kandala Srinivas has been serving devotees by organizing massive Annaprasada (food distribution) programs every year during the Simhachalam and Arunachalam Giri Pradakshina events, providing meals to around 100,000 people per event. Additionally, every Friday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, an Annaprasada drive is organized at the Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital, serving approximately 450 to 600 people.
The family of Lion P. Nageswara Rao also places high importance on philanthropic activities. On occasions such as family birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and other auspicious events, they organize Annaprasada programs more than 20 times a year at the Abhaya Foundation in Uppal, supporting the destitute.
Expanding the Journey of Service
Having earned public appreciation through numerous service initiatives over the past eight years, the Lions Club of Hyderabad Shatabdi is now stepping into its ninth year. Moving forward with the goal of expanding programs in education, healthcare, environment, and social service, the club aims to stand as a role model not just within the district, but across multiple regions. Embodying the spirit that official positions are not needed to serve and that everyone should help society in their own way, the commendable efforts of the Lions Club of Hyderabad Shatabdi continue to inspire public hope that such services will expand further and bring light into the lives of thousands.
