Hyderabad, Trinet News, September 10: Global environmentalist, nature lover, and centenarian award recipient Rajayogi Dr. Chikka Devadasu has called upon the people of the country to fulfill their responsibility of protecting the environment while celebrating Vinayaka Chaviti with devotion.
Dr. Chikka Devadasu stated that worshipping clay Ganesha idols is a part of traditional Indian culture. Since clay idols dissolve easily in water, ponds, lakes, and rivers remain unpolluted, he noted. He warned that idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and chemical colors can harm water sources and aquatic life. Therefore, he urged people to purchase and worship clay Ganesha idols and avoid idols made with chemical colors and Plaster of Paris.
Dr. Chikka Devadasu also suggested that everyone should wear handloom stoles and clothing at home and at pandals during the Ganesha festival. He stated that by promoting clay idols decorated with eco-friendly, natural colors, local artisans and weaving communities will also secure livelihoods.
An eco-friendly clay Ganesha is a symbol of our tradition and a shield for the environment, Dr. Chikka Devadasu said. He urged people not to harm nature in the name of devotion, to embrace both devotion and responsibility, to keep our lakes, ponds, and rivers clean, and to provide a pristine environment for future generations.
