Tarnaka, Trinet News, August 31: Representatives of the Universities Differently-Abled Forum stated that there is a strong need to create widespread awareness about the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016, which was enacted to protect the rights of persons with disabilities.
Led by the Forum's Telangana State President, Dr. N. Ashok, representatives met the Osmania University Registrar and requested him to organize a special awareness seminar on the Act at the OU Arts College. The representatives stated that due to a lack of proper awareness regarding the rights, self-respect, and equal opportunities of persons with disabilities, they face difficulties on many occasions. They noted that by creating full-scale awareness about the Act in society, the rights of persons with disabilities can be protected more effectively.
The OU Registrar responded positively to the Forum's request and assured them that an awareness seminar on the 2016 Act would be organized. Later, the Forum representatives presented a copy of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016 book to the Registrar and felicitated him with a shawl.
Forum's Telangana State Working President Maraveni Chandrasekhar Yadav and several other representatives participated in the program.
