Trinet News – 24 August 2026: Rain has once again battered Hyderabad. Rains are continuing across Telangana due to the impact of south-west monsoons and a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Department has warned that the sky in Hyderabad will remain cloudy on Monday, with chances of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several areas. Rains have resumed in Telangana, which had been suffering from dry weather for the past few days. Rain lashed several parts of Hyderabad on Sunday night. With heavy downpours suddenly hitting some parts of the city, water stagnated on the roads, causing difficulties for motorists and pedestrians.

Rain Warning for the City

On August 24, the Meteorological Department issued heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and gusty wind warnings for Telangana. Officials stated that besides Hyderabad, rains are likely to lash Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts. The Met Department has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers in Hyderabad on Monday, and stated that rains are likely to continue in the city on Tuesday as well.

Gusty Winds of 40 kmph

Along with the rains, the Met Department has issued advance warnings that gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely in some parts of the city. Consequently, people have been advised to stay alert near trees, electricity poles, and construction sites. Roads are likely to become slippery during rainfall. Officials have also warned of the risk of water stagnation in low-lying areas, advising citizens to take precautions and avoid traveling in the rain unless necessary.

Impact on Traffic

It has become common for traffic issues to arise as soon as rain begins in Hyderabad. Vehicular movement is likely to slow down, particularly on major roads, flyovers, low-lying areas, and busy junctions. With water pooling on roads during the rain, two-wheeler riders need to travel with extra caution. Officials have advised motorists to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead.

Special Focus on Low-Lying Areas

During every heavy downpour, some low-lying areas in Hyderabad face the threat of inundation. People residing near drains, lakes, and canals need to remain vigilant. Officials have advised people not to venture into areas where floodwater flows rapidly during heavy rains in the city. Families must take care to keep children and the elderly away from flowing rainwater.

Public Vigilance Needed

People should not stand under trees during thunderstorms. It is advisable to stay away from electricity poles and metal structures in open spaces. If snapped power lines are spotted during rain, people should stay away from them and inform the concerned authorities. Officials have also advised taking advance measures to prevent water stagnation around houses. The medical and health department has also warned that mosquito breeding may increase in water-logged areas during the monsoon, raising the risk of diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.

Impact of Rains for Two More Days

Under the influence of the current weather conditions, rains are likely to continue in other parts of Telangana as well. The Met Department has stated that rains may persist in Hyderabad on Monday and Tuesday. In view of the rains, the GHMC, electricity, police, and disaster management departments need to remain alert. Water accumulation in low-lying areas should be monitored constantly, and advance arrangements must be made to evacuate people to safe locations in case of emergencies.

Alertness is Safety

While rains are much needed for Hyderabad, heavy downpours also cause hardships for city residents. It is extremely essential to constantly keep drains, canals, and water channels clean for smooth rainwater runoff. Citizens must also follow official guidelines and cooperate with rescue teams during emergencies. People should minimize unnecessary travel during heavy rains and take special care of children and the elderly.

Overall, with the impact of rains continuing in Hyderabad, city residents need to remain vigilant. Officials have advised people not to ignore Met Department warnings and to plan their travel and daily activities according to the prevailing conditions.
