Chikkadpally, Trinet News, August 28: Telangana Department of Language and Culture Director and IAS officer Dr. Enugu Narasimha Reddy stated that Gidugu Ramamurthy Panthulu spearheaded the Telugu language movement by firmly opposing those who resisted colloquial Telugu. As part of commemorating legendary figures, a special meeting honoring Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy was jointly organized by Sri Tyagaraya Gana Sabha and the Telangana Department of Language and Culture at the Kala Subbarao stage in Tyagaraya Gana Sabha.
Attending as the chief guest, Enugu Narasimha Reddy, along with Tyagaraya Gana Sabha President Kala Janardhana Murthy, paid floral tributes by garlanding the portrait of Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy. Speaking on the occasion, he noted that education and literature during those times were confined to difficult 'Granthika Bhasha' (classical literary language) understood only by scholars. He lauded Gidugu for initiating the colloquial language movement to ensure that education and literature became easily accessible to common people. He recalled how Gidugu, with the cooperation of luminaries like Gurajada Apparao, worked extensively to adapt spoken language for literary composition and education.
Presided over by Sri Tyagaraya Gana Sabha President Kala Janardhana Murthy, the event was attended by prominent litterateur Dr. Brahmanapalli Jayaramulu, film director and cow protection advocate Gopalakrishna, and social worker Chintakindi Vijaya Prasad, among others.
