In Andhra Pradesh politics, a controversy surrounding the family of former minister and senior YSRCP leader Jogi Ramesh has once again come into the spotlight. Ibrahimpatnam police have registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Meghana, the wife of Jogi Ramesh's son Rajiv, against her in-laws.
According to news reports, cases have been registered against a total of 11 family members, including Jogi Ramesh, on charges of dowry harassment, domestic violence, cheating, and attempted murder. Reports indicate that in her complaint, Meghana stated that she faced mental and physical harassment ever since her marriage to Rajiv. She reportedly explained to the police that she was pressured for additional dowry and subjected to harassment on various occasions.
News articles noted that despite her family spending heavily during the wedding and providing valuable items like gold and silver, additional demands continued. According to Meghana's allegations, there was pressure for an additional Rs 5 crore, an expensive car, and diamond jewelry. However, these are currently allegations made in the complaint, and their veracity must be ascertained through a police investigation. The family members facing these allegations also have the full legal right to present their side.
Harassment Allegations Post-Marriage
According to news reports, Rajiv and Meghana were married on May 28, 2025, in Suryapet. Reports state that Meghana mentioned in her complaint that harassment began shortly after the marriage. She reportedly alleged that despite multiple attempts to resolve the family dispute in the presence of elders, the issue remained unresolved. Some reports noted that Meghana accused them of subjecting her to physical and mental distress and depriving her of freedom within the house. This family dispute eventually reaching the police station has sparked discussions in political circles.
Attempted Murder Allegations
News reports revealed that Meghana also alleged in her complaint that multiple attempts were made on her life. She reportedly mentioned one incident during a trip to Goa, another at a farmhouse in Ghatkesar, and yet another on April 13, 2026. Reports state she alleged that on some occasions, attempts were made to push her down, while on others, attempts were made to suffocate her. Considering these allegations extremely severe, news reports indicated that the police are currently examining the points mentioned in the complaint, available evidence, and statements from relevant individuals. A fundamental principle of the legal system is that no one should be considered guilty until the charges are proven.
Case Registered Against 11 People
It is reported that the case registered at the Ibrahimpatnam police station includes the names of Jogi Ramesh, his wife Shakunthala, their son Rajiv, and other family members. Police reportedly confirmed that a case has been registered against a total of 11 individuals. The case is said to have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Following the registration of the case, the police are continuing their investigation. The facts must be brought to light by examining Meghana's allegations, the evidence she submitted, medical details, statements from family members, and other related aspects.
Family's Attempt for Anticipatory Bail
The Deccan Chronicle reported that following the registration of the case, Jogi Ramesh's family members approached the Vijayawada Women's Court and filed a petition for anticipatory bail. The court reportedly admitted the petition for hearing and directed the Ibrahimpatnam police to file a counter. Consequently, this family dispute has now reached a legal stage.
While Meghana is alleging severe harassment and attempts on her life, the family members accused in the case are seeking legal recourses.
Discussion in Political Circles
Since Jogi Ramesh previously served as an Andhra Pradesh minister and was a key leader in YSRCP politics, this controversy within such a political leader's family has naturally sparked discussions in political circles. Recent reports indicate that various comments, videos, and discussions regarding this issue are ongoing on social media.
However, it is crucial that this family dispute is not viewed solely from a political angle and that an impartial investigation is conducted into the allegations. If harassment truly occurred, justice must be served to the victim. At the same time, if the allegations against innocent family members are false, they too must receive legal protection. Domestic violence and dowry harassment against women are serious societal issues. When problems arise within a family, addressing them through legal channels is better than concealing them. Currently, the facts in this case concerning Jogi Ramesh's family must come to light through police investigation and court proceedings. Until then, treating the allegations in the complaint merely as allegations and respecting the legal process is essential.
