NEW DELHI, September 23 (Trinet News): President of India Droupadi Murmu attended the 75th annual convocation of the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara, Gujarat, as the chief guest. She praised the university for progressing over the past 75 years by harmonizing diverse fields of knowledge.
Addressing the gathering, the President noted that no single academic discipline can provide solutions to today's complex global problems. She stressed the need for a multi-disciplinary approach to address critical challenges facing society, stating that the curiosity of a scientist, the sensitivity of an artist, the perspective of a historian, the deep understanding of an economist, and the social consciousness of a sociologist must be integrated. She advised higher educational institutions like Maharaja Sayajirao University to remain vigilant and dynamic in this direction.
President Murmu called upon graduating students to introspect on the real purpose behind their education and knowledge. She noted that prioritizing the interests of the country and society in one's professional life brings not only personal progress but also immense self-satisfaction. Education achieves its true significance only when it benefits the nation and society, she asserted.
She advised engineers to develop technologies that improve people's lives, urged doctors to view their profession as service rather than mere employment, and asked scientists to find solutions for the betterment of humanity. Artists and writers should enrich societal sensitivity and human values, she added, while entrepreneurs should create wealth along with employment opportunities. Teachers should shape a young generation that respects heritage while embracing progress, and those in public life should treat their positions as responsibilities rather than symbols of authority.
The President stated that the country is moving forward with the national goal of building a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) by 2047. She noted that this vision includes ensuring quality education and healthcare for all, utilizing science and technology for human welfare, and providing equal opportunities to everyone. She expressed her desire to harness the full potential of women and youth for national development and to build an India where every citizen has the opportunity to live with dignity. President Droupadi Murmu called upon universities and the youth to play a pivotal role in achieving these goals.
