Chief Minister Revanth Reddy used activists for power and then betrayed them, alleged Telangana Rakshana Sena Chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha.
Speaking in Hyderabad on September 6 for Trinet News, Kavitha accused the police of remaining indifferent while severe trolling targeting women has been taking place recently. Expressing deep anguish, she questioned how police, who are meant to protect law and order, are ignoring abusive comments directed even at a prominent person like herself, asking what ordinary women are supposed to do in such situations. She emphasized that under the IT Act, making obscene comments against women carries a three-year prison sentence. Questioning the DGP, she asked if he was unaware of the legal provision that departmental action against anyone should not remain incomplete. "The DGP has two daughters-in-law. Would he stay silent if similar comments were made against them? Mr. DGP, what is your responsibility? Where is your sensitivity?" she questioned angrily.
Referring to the Chief Minister's statement on bringing a bill against hate speech, she demanded that the bill be introduced in the current assembly session. Before the elections, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy practically begged at the feet of activists and promised to do them justice after coming to power. Activists trusted Revanth Reddy because Prof. Kodandaram was by his side, and she demanded that the government immediately implement the promises made to them. All parties submitted their views to the KK Committee, but she lamented that even that committee's report has not progressed.
Kavitha pointed out that Prof. Kodandaram, on behalf of Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), had issued identity cards to activists, but he seems to have forgotten that he is now part of the government. "Kodandaram, why can't you submit the identity cards you issued to the government? Is there no value for the Chief Minister's word in this government? Will you suppress the activists and do injustice to them?" she lashed out. Activists are already exhausted from participating in agitations, and the only option left for them is an indefinite hunger strike, she warned. Stating that the government possesses all the data related to activists, she urged them to at least issue identity cards to some and begin the process. Otherwise, she warned, they will not allow this government to move around in any village in the state.
She demanded that the Chief Minister make a clear promise with a specific timeline during the assembly sessions. Criticizing both the ruling and opposition parties, she said that instead of discussing critical issues in the assembly, they are enacting dramas. Laws should be made regarding fee regulation and the promises given to activists, she added.
Kavitha remarked that it is laughable to hear that Congress is planning a 100-day action plan for BCs. She criticized the party for staging protests for BCs now, despite previously miscalculating and underreporting the 42% BC reservations. Congress is neither talking to the Centre about laws regarding BC reservations nor leading an all-party delegation to Delhi, she noted. It is ridiculous that the very party doing injustice to BCs is staging dharnas for them, Kavitha stated, demanding that the caste census conducted by the Centre must include a specific column for caste.
