Hyderabad, Trinet News, September 24: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued directives to officials to make the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant fully operational for power generation before Dasara. On Thursday, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka reviewed the power department at MCRHRD. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister questioned officials over the failure to achieve full-scale power generation at the Yadadri Thermal Plant.
Officials stated that G9 grade coal is required for generation at the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant. They explained that Singareni does not have blocks producing G9 coal, nor is there any possibility of G9 coal production from Singareni in the near future. CM Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka questioned how the Yadadri plant was built with that technology when G9 coal was not available.
The CM and Deputy Chief Minister also questioned why the Yadadri plant was constructed far away instead of at the pithead (near coal mines), and what the additional financial burden on the state would be due to coal transportation for it. Officials replied that the plant was built at a distance rather than at the pithead due to political reasons in the past. They explained that supplying coal to Yadadri is placing an additional burden of Rs 40,000 crore on Telangana state.
The CM and Deputy Chief Minister inquired about the possibilities of obtaining G9 coal from Singareni. Officials clarified that Singareni could not supply G9 coal because the previous government did not participate in coal block auctions. They further explained that 14 coal blocks have already been closed in Singareni.
In view of the current power requirements in the state, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka issued orders to initiate measures for procuring coal from Mahanadi Coalfields and Coal India. The Chief Minister suggested that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka immediately hold discussions with Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy.
