Hyderabad, Trinet News, September 18: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made a courtesy call on Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday during the Southern States Agriculture Ministers Conference held in Madhapur. Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Chief Secretary Santhaj Jaju, and senior officials participated in the meeting.
CM Revanth thanked the Union Minister for allocating 2 lakh houses to the State in the first phase under the PMAY-G scheme. Last July, CM Revanth had submitted a representation to the Union Minister in Delhi requesting the sanction of houses for 11,56,915 eligible rural families. The Chief Minister urged the Union Minister to allocate the remaining 9.56 lakh houses in accordance with the State's demand.
On this occasion, the CM explained the impact of El Nino in the State to the Union Minister. He stated that power consumption in agriculture has increased due to drought-like conditions. The CM explained to the Union Minister that the State government has prepared advance action plans to prevent shortages of drinking water and electricity in view of El Nino. The CM requested the Centre to provide necessary support to tackle El Nino conditions in the agricultural sector.
The Chief Minister further explained that, unlike anywhere else in the country, the government is providing fine rice to the poor through ration shops, encouraging them by giving a bonus of Rs. 500 on fine paddy varieties, and promoting alternative crops among farmers in view of El Nino. The CM informed the Union Minister that an international standard fruits and vegetable market is being set up in 250 acres.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was urged by CM Revanth Reddy to recognize the need to encourage farmers towards crop diversification and extend cooperation.
