Avoid Blue Plastic Bags: Jute Bag Awareness Campaign

Lion Annam Kotireddy has called for widespread awareness programs to ensure environmental protection and build a plastic-free society in the Siddipet region. He explained the hazards of single-use plastic covers to the public and urged everyone to act responsibly by completely reducing their usage. In this regard, Lion Annam Kotireddy paid a courtesy visit to Siddipet Region Chairperson Lion Jilla Ramesh and the respective Zone Chairperson. The meeting deliberated on issues such as environmental protection, plastic usage control, and creating public awareness.
Plastic Usage Threatens the Environment
Lion Annam Kotireddy noted that the use of single-use plastic bags has increased drastically in markets, grocery stores, and vegetable markets recently. Because single-use plastic covers do not decompose easily in the soil, they have a long-term impact on the environment, he said. He pointed out that plastic waste accumulating in drains, ponds, and rivers not only obstructs water flow but also causes water pollution. He expressed concern that cattle and other animals consuming plastic waste along with food are facing fatal risks. Burning plastic waste also releases harmful smoke and toxic substances into the atmosphere, posing a threat to public health. Therefore, he urged that the plastic issue should not be seen merely as a government problem, but as the responsibility of every citizen.
Cloth Bag Usage Must Become a Habit
Lion Annam Kotireddy suggested that people should cultivate the habit of carrying cloth bags from home when going to the market. He stated that by using reusable cloth and jute bags instead of single-use plastic bags, plastic waste can be significantly reduced. “Carrying a cloth bag from home rather than buying a bag when going to the market should become a good habit in our daily lives,” he advised. Small changes lead to big shifts in society, and every family must decide to reduce plastic usage, he added.
Widespread Awareness Through Lions Clubs
Lion Annam Kotireddy appealed to all presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and members of Lions Clubs within the Siddipet region to take this campaign to the public. He suggested that every club should create awareness among people in its jurisdiction about the harms caused by plastic. Noting that Lions Clubs have long been undertaking service activities for environmental protection, he stressed the need to take up more initiatives for a plastic-free society with the same spirit. Organizing awareness programs in schools, markets, residential areas, and business establishments can bring about positive changes among the people, he stated.
Free Distribution of Jute Bags
To promote alternatives to plastic bags, a few jute bags were handed over free of cost to Siddipet Region Chairperson Lion Jilla Ramesh and the Zone Chairperson. The main objective of this program is to encourage the use of eco-friendly jute bags, he said. By promoting the extensive use of jute bags among the public, dependence on plastic bags can be reduced, he added, calling on everyone to play their part in saving the environment.
Success Through Public Participation
Lion Annam Kotireddy stated that building a plastic-free society is not something that can be achieved in a single day, but requires continuous awareness. Just as formulating regulations is important for the government, compliance by the people is equally important, he noted.
District Governor Smt. Vijayalakshmi participated as the chief guest in this program. Cabinet Secretary Sri Rammohan Soubhagya, Lion Marri Praveen Kumar, Lion Manohar, and others were also present. The leaders expressed their aspiration that protecting the environment means safeguarding the lives of future generations, and therefore, a movement to reduce plastic usage must originate from every household. They gave a widespread call with the message: “Say no to plastic... Use cloth and jute bags... Protect the environment.”
