Tri Net News August 23, 2026 Correspondent, Peri Nageswar Rao: The BJP leadership has made severe allegations that massive illegal collections are taking place in every development work in the state ever since the Congress government came to power.
Recalling that during the previous government's tenure there were allegations of taking up to 15 percent for each work, BJP leaders criticized that the current situation has deteriorated further with collections reaching nearly 30 percent in every project and work.
They stated that while funds allocated by the government for public welfare and state development should fully reach the works, the allegations of massive amounts changing hands midway are alarming. BJP leaders made it clear that if there is no transparency in government works, the public will ultimately be the ones to suffer.
Allegations Against the Previous Government Too
BJP leaders recalled that during the previous government's period, opposition parties at the time had alleged that up to 15 percent commissions were taken on every government work. However, they criticized that situation has become much more severe under the current Congress rule.
They criticized that allegations of up to 30 percent collections are now being heard, and demanded that the government answer on this issue.
BJP leaders urged the government to look into the problems faced by contractors in many sectors such as roads, buildings, irrigation works, infrastructure projects, and local body development works.
Impact on Quality
BJP leaders stated that if large amounts are collected from contractors in development works, that burden is likely to be reflected in the quality of the works eventually. They said that if the contractor does not receive the full amount required for the work, it becomes difficult to carry out quality construction, resulting in the risk of roads, buildings, and other constructions getting damaged in a short time.
They demanded that every work undertaken with public money must be accounted for and the government should take action to ensure that not a single rupee is misused.
Ready for an Inquiry?
If the Congress government believes that the allegations against them are not true, BJP leaders challenged them to be ready for a comprehensive inquiry into development works happening across the state.
They requested that complete details from the tender process to bill payments in every department be placed before the public. BJP leaders demanded clarity on issues such as: Where are the funds related to development works coming from? For what amount were the tenders finalized? How much was paid to the contractors? How much amount is changing hands through intermediaries before the works are completed?
Need to Protect Public Money
BJP leaders stated that government development programs are continuing with the money paid by the state's citizens in the form of taxes, and therefore no one has the right to misuse public money.
They suggested that instead of dismissing corruption allegations as political criticisms every time they arise, the facts should be brought out. They requested transparency, quality, and accountability in every project. They demanded increased monitoring of the transactions taking place between contractors, officials, and public representatives.
