Renowned playback singer Dr. P. Susheela was honored with the Gandhi Spoorthi Puraskaram along with the title of 'Swara Samragyi' at a felicitation event held on the main stage of Ravindra Bharathi, organized by Sruthi Laya Foundation and Sealwell Corporation with the support of the Department of Language and Culture.
Legislative Council Member Dasoju Sravan, former Police Housing Corporation Chairman Koleti Damodar, and numerologist Daivagna Sharma attended the event as chief guests and felicitated her. Speaking on the occasion, they stated that Susheela's songs will endure for generations. They remarked that while Gandhi is a symbol of truth and sanctity, Susheela is a symbol of musical pitch and purity. Noting that Susheela, like Gandhi, is soft-spoken and concise in speech, they opined that bestowing the Gandhi Award upon her is entirely appropriate.
Presiding over the event, former Police Housing Corporation Chairman Koleti Damodar stated that Susheela has sung in all South Indian languages. He requested the central government to confer the Bharat Ratna award upon her.
Speaking on the occasion, Susheela expressed that even though she is in her nineties, remaining in the hearts of the people is a great award. She mentioned that receiving an award on the stage of Ravindra Bharathi, where many great personalities have stepped, is special.
During the same event, guests felicitated Jitender Reddy, who recently retired as ACP, with the 'Service Icon' award. TGO leader Srinivas, Mutyala Hari Kishan, Ratnakar, Ganga Prasad, Rahim, and others participated on the stage.
From afternoon till night, prominent playback singers including Amani, Subhash Chandra Teja, Anjaneya Sastry, Aruna, Sridevi, and Shobha rendered melodious songs. Veenapani's vedic blessings and commentary on Gandhi were fitting for the occasion.
